Star of Abaco
Posted on: 4/11/2012

Often online pictures and descriptions can be misleading. In the case of Star of Abaco, the comfort and quality of the home are understated. Superb location just out of Hopetown. House is on a large property with maximum privacy. The wooden peg and beam contruction with exposed rafters adds a very nice touch. With sliding glass doors and windows on both sea side and rear allows the breeze to blow through the house. The close proximity to the waters edge allows you to hear the waves crash and feel the sea breeze all day and night. A large deck on the sea side is up high enough to look out and down on the emerald water. My personal home is on the water and very beautiful as well, but my wife and I were thoroughly happy with our decision to stay at Star of the Sea in Hopetown, Abaco. We would go back in a minute and want the same house again. We feel we got what we paid for and can honestly say if you are disappointed in this place, you are hard to please.

So glad to hear you enjoyed our home as we do, and we’ll look forward to welcoming you back in the future. The location is indeed just about perfect on the island – surf, sand, and seclusion are things we love about coming down there ourselves.

A beautiful home in a special place
Posted on: 4/11/2012

We had a fabulous time! The weather was perfect. Not too hot or cold. Abaco Star of the Sea is a beautiful home! We brought snorkeling gear and everyday went to a different beach. We had lunch at a different island everyday. Our highlights were Nappers beach resort and grill at Great Gauna Cay & Sandy Cay State Park snorkeling. We loved that even though it was spring break, there were not crowds of people any where! Hopetown is a special place; we would love to come back in the future!

Abaco Star of the Sea

My wife and I really enjoyed staying at Abaco Star of the Sea. This was our last trip before our first baby is born and we just wanted to relax. That is exactly what we did. The house is actually nicer than the pictures we saw. It was nicely furnished and quite comfortable, both inside and out. The rinsing pool was great after spending some time in the sun and the views were incredible. We sat outside on the deck at night and saw so many more stars than you would ever see from our home in florida. The floorplan of the house was also really neat and unique and would have come in handy if we had brought some more family members. The separated quarters would allow for privacy without sacrificing great views for all guests. The location was perfect. We could walk to On Da Beach for lunch and a drink or take the golf cart into town easly. Getting groceries just down the street at LVA was simple and trekking it to tahiti beach was a fun exploration. This house was perfect and we would be happy to recommend it to a couple or a larger family.

Your home was absolutely beautiful. The sunrise off the deck every morning was breath taking. We took Froggys Adventure and had a great time snorkeling the reef. We also kayaked the harbor to Tahiti beach We got to go up into the light house and watch them light it. I really love that the cay is untouched by tourism. We hope to rent again next year!

romantic The Perfect Vacation

Our family gives this property FIVE stars for good reason. The house is lovely, open to tropical breezes yet totally private, beautifully maintained and equipped, and utterly charming. There is no "bad room" – wonderful views of the ocean and beach directly below the house. The little pool in the large sundeck is perfect for dunking in and out and keeping cool if necessary. There is air conditioning available, but secondary to the heavenly island breezes which is really all you need. The caretaker is there on the spot to answer any questions or enthusiastically help in any way. He even drove us to the pier to take the ferry back to Abaco. Elbow Cay is charming – so much to do and see. Fun, good, reasonable restaurants, adorable town of Hopetown, wonderful bakery where we had a homemade birthday cake, and very friendly people everywhere we went. There is also quite a lot of history on the island. You can easily rent a small boat to travel to other islands nearby where you can eat and/or drink under a tropical thatched roof and have a real island feeling and experience. This property is #1 – don’t even bother looking at anything else!

Charming, Relaxing, and pretty much perfect.

This place is incredible. I visited in January of 08 and had such a great time. I had never taken a tropical winter vacation before, but after my experience in Hopetown and at this house in particular, I’m hooked. The house is adorable and feels so relaxing and secluded. The sunset from the back porch is one of the highlights of each day, and then falling asleep to the sound of crashing ocean waves is just as wonderful. And if you’re feeling social, town (charming, laid back, gorgeous, and not very touristy at all) is just a breezy walk or jog away.

The large, white sand beachfront view speaks for itself. The main house shares the deck with a separate guest suite unit. This configuration, along with the separate cottage, affords complete privacy for three couples/families but the arrangement still maintains its communal and intimate character. A very nice balance. The exposed post and beam construction with open ceilings is an appealing interior aesthetic. The deck is large and there is room for everybody out there. It is the right place to gather for the party. The property is located on the perimeter of the Hope Town development. So it is quiet and separate from the commercial activity but it is still only a 10-15 minute walk or 3 minute golf cart ride to the commercial center of Hope Town. The distance is never an obstacle to getting into town for drinks before having dinner back at the house. Hope Town is as rich in its unspoiled 19th century character as you can find in the Bahamas or Caribbean today. Just the experience of going grocery shopping is part of the fun of being on the island. Sea kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, clamming sailing, motor boating, biking, hiking, and bone fishing (a local specialty) are all available. You would not want to miss climbing the lighthouse steps or visiting the historical museum. The feel of easy island life will keep the sedate vacationer comfortable, and there will be enough going on to keep the hyperactive vacationer busy.

A Hopetown gem!
Posted on: 4/11/2012

This wonderful and large vacation get-a-way was everything we expected and more! When not exploring the island we lived outside on the beach playing frisbee, sitting on the deck reading novels or watching storms roll in from the sea, and relaxing like never before. The home is beautifully laid out and decorated, but cozy and comfortable. It’s located right on the water with the best view I have ever experienced in my life. Although this trip was before we had kids, this would be the perfect place to bring the whole family. The owners are wonderful people who have been a part of the Hopetown community for more than 20 years. We hope to return again and again!

Amazing

This unit was a beautiful location and experience. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and family. It is spacious with a spectacular view of the ocean. It was very well maintained. The nearby town is a pleasure to visit. I highly recommend renting this property for an extended period of time, you will not want to leave!

Amazing view, loved the quite beach & striking sunset!
Posted on: 4/11/2012

I loved every single aspect of my visit to this beautiful house! Waking up to the sound of the sea & the view of the sun rising has no comparison. Having breakfast at the gazebo listening to the waves break on the beach was amazing. The house has everything you might need and more! A fully equipped kitchen, 2 rooms with 2 full bathrooms in the main house and a splendid extra room (with a full bathroom too) completely separate from the main house across a garden with palm trees, coconuts and flowers! In the afternoon, when you have spent a whole day reading on the deck with a striking view of the sea, swimming, walking on the beach, biking (the house even had 2 bikes for us to use!) you can always go downtown walking along the beach and get a piña colada and conch fritters at the Harbour’s Edge! I would highly recommend this house to anyone who enjoys beautiful beaches, crystal blue water, snorkeling on the reef & relaxing at a beautiful island!

A comfortable house

Star of the Sea is well furnished and well maintained. It has good beach access and is private and quiet and, since a generator was being installed while we were there, the nuisance of power interruptions should now be a thing of the past.

WONDERFUL, WARM, HOME AND ISLAND
Posted on: 5/13/2013

What a wonderful vacation! Star of the Sea is a warm, clean, and inviting home, beautifully decorated with island art. It is well equipped with all your cooking needs and ample linens. The living area faces the blue ocean and clean, sand beaches. The cottage is nestled in a private spot surrounded by lush island growth yet is close to Hope Town. We enjoyed frequent dips in the ocean, floating in the calm waters off Tahiti Beach, boating on the Abaco Sea, and wonderful dinners in local restaurants offering fresh and tasty sea food. Steve of Hope Town Hideaways was available for questions and whatever else we needed. Great Vacation.

Great Stay has everything you will need
Posted on: 6/24/2013

Thank you for a great stay our kids were spoiled with so many activities to do in and around the house and best of all throughout the stay we rarely turned the TV on. Everything was clean and in workable order. A very easy stay. We did need a few items from the caretakers but one call on the VHF took care of that quickly.  One further recommendation is as previous guests have mentioned some permanent stairs down to the beach would be a nice addition especially for elderly guests.

A beautiful visit in The Bahamas
Posted on: 12/19/2013

I just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful week in the Bahamas and the house was wonderful.

Everyone that we met was so nice and helpful.  The food was incredibly delicious.  The fishing excursion was very successful and we had a wonderful dinner afterward.  The beaches and the water was so beautiful.  So, thank you for everything….I hope we can return again.
And the Music Festival was an extra added treat.  It was great music.
Thank you  — Leslie

Abaco Star of the Sea was a great family vacation rental, and Hope Town Hideaways made all the difference. Steve, the caretaker, was always available with suggestions and solutions. The property was as described, with beautiful beach views and a back up generator that was flawless. Booking, pickup and other arrangements made our lives easier once we were there.
