Sandy Cay Reef is the most amazing live reef offering both deep and shallow viewing – at some parts the coral breaks the top of the water so perfect for divers and snorkelers. There is every kind of tropical coral and fish (we always take a reference book as there are normally new discoveries every time we jump in). There are moorings set up for easy tying up with out taking a chance on your anchor dragging and destroying part of the delicate reef. (Hope Town Hideaways is a proud sponsor of one!) Several of the dive operators will take trips there including Froggies Out Island Adventures. This is definitely a “not to be missed” day. Most guests will return to Sandy Cay Reef several times during their stay as it is always changing with the sea life. It is like swimming in a huge aquarium thriving with turtles, every imaginable colorful fish, and leopard rays and yes an occasional reef shark. The reef is apart of the Pelican Cays Land & Sea Park which is protected so be sure not to be tempted by the big juicy grouper or lobster instead enjoy this special place and bring a great underwater camera.
