Mermaid’s Reef – is a fun shallow area with lots of coral heads and friendly fish. It is only ¼ mile off the land of Pelican Shores in Marsh Harbour so it is less intimidating then some of the deeper reefs like Guana Cay reef or Sandy Cay reef. Our children have always enjoyed visiting Mermaid’s Reef and taking friends who have never snorkeled before as it is a great beginner reef. We even named a rather large barracuda “Mr. Peanuts” after dad was eating a snack and waiting in the boat (the kids never want to leave Mermaid’s reef) and the peanut shells he was tossing overboard were played with by about a 4-ft. barracuda … look for Mr. Peanuts on your next visit.
